FAQ

1. Who are the guides behind BhutanGuides.org?

We’re a passionate team of licensed Bhutanese tour guides who call this magical kingdom home. Each of us has years of experience guiding travellers from around the world through Bhutan’s valleys, peaks, dzongs, and temples. Beyond our expertise, we bring local heart, cultural insight, and a genuine love for storytelling.

2. Why book with a local Bhutanese guide?

Booking with us means you’ll be exploring Bhutan through the eyes of someone who grew up here. We don’t just show you places—we share stories, legends, and personal experiences. Plus, you’re supporting local livelihoods directly and helping keep Bhutan’s guiding traditions alive.

3. Are your guides licensed and trained?

Absolutely. All of us are certified by the Department of Tourism. We’ve undergone rigorous training in culture, safety, history, and guiding practices—and many of us also speak multiple languages and are trained in first aid.

4. What languages do your guides speak?

English is widely spoken by all of us. We also have team members who speak Mandarin, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, French, German, and Spanish. Just let us know your preference and we’ll match you with the right guide.

5. What kind of tours do you offer?

We offer cultural tours, trekking adventures, nature and birding trips, wellness journeys, photography tours, and customised experiences for families, solo travellers, couples, and small groups. You dream it—we’ll plan it.

6. Can I customise my itinerary?

Yes, and we actually encourage it! Your Bhutan journey should reflect your interests and pace. Whether you want more spiritual stops, scenic hikes, homestay experiences, or a food-centric trip—we’ll tailor it to suit you.

7. I’ve already booked a trip with another tour operator. Can I still request a specific guide from BhutanGuides.org?

If you have booked your trip with another tour operator, they may assign you a guide that is engaged with the tour operator.

8. Are your guides child-friendly and family-friendly?

Yes! Many of us are parents ourselves and understand how to keep children engaged, safe, and happy. We’ll ensure the pace, activities, and stories are suited for little adventurers.

9. Do you offer trekking guides too?

Yes—we have highly experienced trekking guides for both short and long treks, including the Druk Path, Jomolhari Trek, Snowman Trek and more. Safety, logistics, and local knowledge are our top priorities.

10. How do I request a specific guide?

Simply head to our Contact Us page, fill in your details and mention your preferred guide (if any), travel dates, and type of experience you're looking for. We’ll take care of the rest.

11. Is there a way to read reviews or testimonials from past travellers?

Yes! Head over to our Reviews section to hear what travellers have shared about their journeys with us. You’ll find heartwarming stories, incredible experiences, and lots of happy memories.

12. What happens in bad weather or unexpected changes in Bhutan?

Bhutan’s terrain and weather can be unpredictable—that’s part of the adventure! But don’t worry, your guide will always have a plan B. We’ll stay flexible and make sure you still enjoy a smooth and meaningful journey.

13. Do you provide transportation and accommodation bookings?

Yes, we do provide full end-to-end service from Drukair flight bookings, visa application, securing your accommodation, driver, and ensuring that your trip runs smoothly.

Absolutely. Solo travellers often find our personal approach especially rewarding. You’ll never feel alone—with us, you’ll feel like you're travelling with a local friend.

15. Do your guides carry mobile phones or radios in remote areas?

Yes. We carry mobile phones and, in more remote trekking regions, satellite phones or radios may be arranged to ensure safety and communication at all times.

Visit our Contact Us page.

18. How far in advance should I book a guide?

As early as possible, especially during peak seasons (March–May and September–November). That way, we can secure your preferred guide and make necessary arrangements smoothly.

19. What should I pack for a tour with you?

Once your trip is confirmed, we’ll send you a personalised packing checklist based on your itinerary and time of year. But as a general rule: layers, good walking shoes, sunblock, and a curious spirit!

20. Can you help with visa application and permits?

Yes, we do. It’s a smooth process and we’ll assist you every step of the way. Still got questions? We’d love to hear from you. Send us a message on our website. Bhutan is waiting, and we can’t wait to show you around.
